Finally - the 2019 cruising season begins!

It's been a long time since Hurricane Florence had her way with our boat in New Bern NC. She made landfall in NC on September 14, 2018. She caused about 60 fatalities in the Carolinas in addition to widespread damage to homes, boats, bridges and roads. Florence was followed quickly by Hurricane Michael which caused a fair amount of damage at our home in Greensboro. There is still rebuilding and clean up going on in coastal communities in NC. Although our boat was significantly damaged, we feel lucky to not have had our home damaged.

Florence had particular fun with boats kept in or near New Bern NC bringing a ten and a half foot storm surge that was devastating. Our boat was damaged, but not sunk, as many were. If you are interested there are still many pictures showing the damage to boats, docks, homes and belongings on the internet.

Our boat, Regina Maris, took some extensive damage but fortunately remained dry inside. We've had her in a boat yard, Sailcraft Services in Oriental NC, since mid September. The yard is finally completing their work this week, and we have been loading sails and other gear and working hard to get her ready to go. You would never know it to look at the pictures below that she was badly beaten up when we brought her into the boat yard. Thanks to a lot of work by SailCraft and by us, she's again seaworthy, safe and beautiful including a new paint job!

Regina Maris ready to go
